SIOUX CITY -- Margaret Stoup Packard, 84, of Bellevue, Neb., formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in Bellevue.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Private graveside services will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary by the St. Theresa Study Club at 5 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Margie was born July 13, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Roy and Anne (Curran) Stoup. She graduated from Central High School and Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., with a degree in art and interior design.
She married Dwight L. Packard on July 27, 1946, in Sioux City. "Pack" passed away in 1991. She began her career in interior design at Poulson's Colonial House in Sioux City in 1962. She then became an interior designer at Younkers in 1966 before going into business on her own in 1972. She opened her own studio in 1976 on Pierce Street and later moved her business to the Indian Hill Shopping Center.
She was a long time member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), a board member and recipient of the Medalist Award for excellence in her profession in 1996. She served on the board of the Sioux City Art Center and the Symphony Women's Committee. She was active with the Chamber of Commerce, Junior League, St. Theresa's Study Club, Siouxland Qwestors and was a hospice volunteer. She was a life long member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she served in the parish council.
Her survivors include four sons, Tom (Leslie) of Encinitas, Calif., Steve (Sue) of Sioux City, Mark of Lincoln, Neb., and Dwight (Cindy McLaughlin) of Sioux City; two daughters, Anne Kotlik (Jerry) of Bellevue, Neb., and Mary Packard-Winkler (Jim) currently living in Hanoi, Vietnam; a sister, Rosemary Price of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Thomas Stoup of San Diego, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made in her memory to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 3012 Jackson Street, Sioux City, IA. 51104.
The family is especially grateful to the staff of Victoria Gardens in Bellevue for the wonderful care and love they provided to our mother.
