SIOUX CITY -- Margaret M. Pierce, 87, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital, following a short illness.
Graveside services for the cremated remains will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in Onawa City Cemetery at Onawa, Iowa, with the Rev. Todd Owen of First Christian Church of Onawa, officiating. The former Margaret Marie Kelly was born on Feb. 27, 1921, in Onawa, Iowa, to Claude W. and Bertha G. (Hiemstra) Kelly. She graduated from Onawa High School in 1938. She then attended Normal School to get her teaching certificate. Margaret taught in rural schools until her marriage.
She married Lyle H. Pierce on Jan. 1, 1943, in South Sioux City. Mr. Pierce died Feb. 27, 1990, in Sioux City. Margaret then became a homemaker and housewife. She also operated a home daycare in the 1960s. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1961.
She was a former member of Tremble United Methodist Church. She was an avid gardener. She was a friend to wild birds and animals. She also liked to care for the neighborhood stray cats.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Steve Nordin of Minnetonka, Minn.; two grandsons, Brad Nordin of Brooklyn Park, Minn., and Tim and his wife, Terri and their two sons, Harper and Enders Nordin, all of North Brunswick, N.J.; a brother-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, George, Noel and Walter Kelly; and three sisters, Alma Sanford, Gladys Carroll and Gertrude Hughes.
Memorials in her name may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland and the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
