Margaret K. Seiler

January 10, 1926 — September 23, 2017

The Funeral Mass for Marge Seiler will be held at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home Chapel on Saturday, October 7th at Noon, followed by her interment at Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00, and a 2:00 gathering for family and friends at the Grace United Methodist Church Hall.
Margaret Catherine Duman Seiler was born in Hartington, Nebraska, January 10th, 1926 and passed away September 23rd, 2017. She was the youngest child of Ben and Leone Duman’s six children and grew up in Vermillion, South Dakota. She attended St. James Nebraska Parochial School and graduated from Vermillion High School.
Marge Duman and Lawrence Seiler were married in 1946 at the end of World War II and raised 11 children together. As an Air Force wife, Mom orchestrated the relocation of our growing family from South Dakota, Iowa and South Carolina, before putting down roots in 1958 at the big house on Nebraska Street. She enjoyed talking about the changes she’d seen throughout her lifetime, and she delighted in telling stories about her children’s antics and accomplishments. Mom expressed love through acts of kindness and generosity, evident in simple ways: homemade noodles and fresh-baked bread, camping trips in The Bus, visits with relatives, holiday traditions, extra blankets on cold nights, warm hugs, prayers and small words of encouragement. She was a “Mom” to everyone, including her children’s friends and spouses, nieces and nephews, and the Sisters at the Holy Spirit Retirement Home. She treasured each and every one of her children as unique individuals and had a way of making others feel important.
Mom enriched the lives of others with her positive attitude, frankness, and hearty laugh. Her unconditional love is the gift that will sustain us as we harbor her memory in our hearts.
Continuing on with her memory are Father Charles Duman, Jim Erickson, Joanna Seiler and Stewart Boyce, Trish Seiler, David and Annette Seiler, Tom and Marge Seiler, Sue Seiler Graves and Rich Hoffman, Richard and Brenda Seiler, Roger and Donita Seiler, Charlie Byers, Rob and Cathy Seiler, 12 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, dozens of nieces and nephews, and innumerable friends.
Marge Seiler was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Mercedes Goedert, Maureen Pinkelman, and Mildred Pinkelman, her brother George Duman, Lawrence Seiler, and several nieces and nephews. Her most profound heartache was from the loss of her daughters Janet Byers, Margaret Erickson, and Mary Seiler. Mom’s steadfast faith in God sustained her through life’s challenges. She was a life-long Catholic and an example of compassion, endurance and faith.
