Margaret was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Anthon, Iowa, to Frank and Clara (Houlsworth) Jorgensen. She graduated from East High School with the class of 1942.
She and John W. Short were united in marriage on March 16, 1946, in Sioux City. They enjoyed nearly 40 years of marriage until his death in January 1986. She was employed for 35 years at Younkers, first at the downtown store and at the end of her career at the Southern Hills Mall location. She was known by customers and co-workers alike, by her helpful, friendly service. In 2002, she moved to Pennsylvania to live with her daughter, Debby Pridie, and son-in-law, Pat. In 2005 she relocated with Debby and Pat to Kansas City, Mo., where she resided at The Gardens at Barry Road assisted living. She enjoyed her stay there and was variously admired and resented for her winning ways at bingo. She was much appreciated by the facility's staff for her self-sufficiency and graciousness.
An avid fan of local high school sports, she had the dubious distinction of having spilled the entire contents of her purse at virtually every high school venue in the Tri-State area.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Debby and Pat Pridie of Kansas City, Mo.; sons and their wives, John and Julie of Elizabeth, Colo., and Dale and Cherie of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; daughters, Pat Richards and her companion, Art Banner of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Pam and her husband, Denny Pippett of Blue Springs, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Robert and Mary Jorgensen of Sioux City; and a sister, Marilyn Boden of Buena Park, Calif.
While not a blood relative, she is survived as well by her lifelong friend, Viona Headid. She and Vi were friends for more than 50 years and Vi's friendship was a constant in her life. The family would like to thank Vi for her caring and love for Margaret and the entire family.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, James, Dale, Richard and Charles Jorgensen.
Memorials may be directed to Kendallwood Hospice, 2908 NW Vivion Road, Riverside, MO. 64150.
