SIOUX CITY -- Margaret M. Willgohs, 88, of Sioux City passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Valerie Heller of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Margaret Mary White was born April 8, 1921, to William and Grace (Jones) White in Derby, England. She attended schools and completed her education in Derby. She served in Britain's Women's Land Army. She later served with the Britain's Army Transportation Services as a driver during World War II.
While serving in Britain's Army, she met William J. Willgohs and they were married Feb. 26, 1945, at St. Gile's Church, Normanton near Derby. In 1946, she immigrated to the United States to join her husband, who remained in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Upon his release from the service, the couple made their home in Sioux City. After moving to Sioux City, she worked for Zenith Corporation and was a senior aid companion.
She was a member of the Sioux City Eagles Auxiliary. On Sept. 15, 1999, she received her United States Citizenship, which she was very proud of. She liked to listen to country music, attending the dances at the Eagles Club, craft sales, flea markets and had a love for animals. She enjoyed her outings with her family and watched movies and read books on World War II.
She is survived by her daughters, Wendy Bailey of Sioux City and Ann and her husband, David Dales, of Columbus, Neb.; grandchildren, Tammy and her husband, Rick Bertrand, of Sioux City, Toni and her husband, Tony Selliris, of Hudson, Wis., Tim Bailey and his fiancee, Jessica Schultz, of Des Moines, Brian Dales of Lincoln, Neb., and Eric Dales of Topeka, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Addison Bertrand, Alexandra, Rusty and Sophia Selliris, Kalsey, Kennedy and Frances Bailey; a brother, Maurice White and his wife, Freda, of England; and a nephew, Mark White of England.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister; and her husband, William, in 1968.
Pallbearers will be David Dales, Brian Dales, Eric Dales, Tim Bailey, Tony Selliris and Rick Bertrand.
