Marian Beverly Fleming, 85, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at Holy Spirit Retirement Center.
Services will be 9 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Daniel Rupp will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 5 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Marian was born on March 3, 1931, in Sioux City, the daughter of Amos and Marie (Kubal) Luken. She was a lifelong resident of Sioux City and graduated from Central High School in 1949.
Marian married James T. Fleming on Aug. 21, 1948, in Sioux City. James died on July 8, 1992, in Sioux City.
She was a very active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was also active with the Queen of Peace and Birthright. Marian was a former member of the Carmelite Guild board and a member of the Opus Spiritus Sancti. Marian's faith life was very important to her. She loved to travel and visit Catholic shrines all over the world. She enjoyed entertaining friends at her home. Marian was usually seen wearing a hat and she loved writing letters to her friends near and far, keeping the U.S. Post Office in operation.
Marian is survived by her children, Michael and Kathleen (Berning) Fleming of Urbandale, Iowa, Patrick and Denise Fleming of Sioux City, Marcia and John Samore of Albuquerque, N.M., Mary Jo and Marti Reilly of Sioux City, and Molly and Randy Wilson of Omaha; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Roland and Charlotte Luken of Fargo, N.D., and Alton Luken of Boise, Idaho; and her sister, Phyllis Mitchell of Le Mars, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Ross Luken.
