Marian A. Gisel

September 3, 1941 — June 24, 2018

Marian A. Gisel, 76, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at St. the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Marian was born in Inwood, Iowa, to William and Pearl (Hamann) Arp. She grew up in Inwood and graduated from Inwood High School. After high school, Marian moved to Sioux City to attend Morningside College. After completing her coursework, she joined the workforce as a secretary for Central High School.
During this time she met Deane Gisel. They married on Dec. 26, 1964 in Marian's hometown of Inwood on a cold winters day. Soon after, Marian started her career with the Iowa Department of Transportation as a maintenance secretary. She worked there until she and Deane decided to start a family in 1968. Marian would later continue her career with IDOT. Marian would retire from IDOT after 33 years of dedicated service.
Marian was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and the Ruth Circle church group. She loved crossword puzzles and romance novels. Every week Marian would go to the library to switch out books. She knew what books she read based on if she had initials in them. But most importantly, Marian loved her family. She loved spending time with her kids and her grandkids, as well as relaxing next to her husband, Deane, with a coke. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Deane Gisel of Sioux City; her children, Pam Gisel and her husband, Mike Taylor of Omaha, and Greg Gisel and his wife, Crystal of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Sean Gisel, Todd Uhl, Jacob Uhl, and Kloey Gisel; brother, Marvin Arp and his wife, Beverly of Inwood; and many nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Mark Lutheran Church or Hospice of Siouxland in Marian's name.
