LAWTON, Iowa -- Marian Lavonne Harrison, 84, Lawton died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton, with Pastor Cyndy Ripperger officiating. Burial will be Arlington Township Cemetery at Moville, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. The McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Marian was born on Oct. 12, 1925, in rural Hornick, Iowa. She was the daughter of Jesse and Elsie (McKnight) Washburn. She graduated from Luton High School in 1944. She then attended teachers training at Morningside College. Marian taught at rural country schools in Hawarden, Banner No. 2, James and Concord.
On Aug. 6,1947, she married Donald Harrison in Sioux City. The couple made their home in rural Lawton. Marian was a substitute teacher in Lawton for 20 years. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church and held office for the Presbyterian women group. She taught Sunday school and Bible school. She enjoyed bird watching, bowling and fishing. She was also a member of the 50 years card club, Variety Club and was a 4-H leader for 15 years. But what she loved most was spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include her husband, Donald of Lawton; three daughters, Pamela and her husband, Glenn Clark of Moville, Nancy Harrison and her friend, Pam Miller of Portland, Ore., and Marla Harrison and her husband, Vincent Lando of Corbett, Ore.; three grandchildren, Christopher Clark and his fiancee, Molly McDaniel, Sharlyn Clark and her husband, Ricardo Cortes, and Charles and his wife, Marcy Clark; a great-grandchild, Angelica; her brother, Lowell and Francie Washburn of Lawton; a sister, Alta Maron of Black Hawk, S.D.; brothers-in-law, Dale and Norma Jean Harrison of Omaha, and Virgil Wiegel of Richland, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Delores Harrison of Sioux Center, Carol Green of Morehead, N.C., Shyrl and Russ Daniel of Le Mars, Iowa, and Lorraine Washburn of Lawton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and his wife, Jesse and Lavonne Washburn; a brother, Bernard Washburn; two sisters, Eva Weigel and Wilma Pierick; a sister-in-law, Helen Washburn; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Maron, Robert Green and Morris Harrison.
