Marilyn "Sissy" Downhour was born on Feb. 5, 1927, to Harold and Bessie (Christensen) Downhour in Sergeant Bluff. Marilyn also had a twin brother, Merrill "Hoppy", who passed away in 1992. Marilyn attended Sergeant Bluff School. Sergeant Bluff was always Marilyn's home. She loved to just drive through town, and she would always have a story about her life there.
Marilyn had one daughter, Diane Downhour, who passed away in 2014. She also had one granddaughter, Pam and her husband, Marty Rouch, as well as two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan in Norwalk, Iowa.
Marilyn was a very loving and caring person. She loved going gambling. It never failed when we would go to WinnaVegas, she would always win; the joy on her face was priceless. Marilyn loved drinking coffee, pop and eating chocolate ice cream. She loved watching comedy movies and eating popcorn. Another joy Marilyn had was to talk on the telephone to stay in touch with her family.
When she was living at the Marshall Street apartment, she had very special friends there, Tamera, Mandi, Wayne, Norma, the two Richards and Jim, just to name a few. When she was not able to live there any longer, she moved to Touchstone Living Center, where she had many special friends there as well. Marilyn spent a lot of time with her sister, Dutchie, brother-in-law, Maynard, and her niece, Nancy and her husband, Scott. She will be greatly missed by all that she knew and loved and those who loved her.
Marilyn had participated in the Special Olympics for many years, receiving many ribbons and medals. She worked at Midstep Services for many years up until her retirement. That just left her more time to go shopping or gambling with Mandi and Tamera. Marilyn had a great smile that would just melt your heart.
Marilyn is survived by her two sisters, Dorthy Muxfeldt and Deloras Huff; a brother-in-law, Maynard Kilpatrick Sr.; granddaughter, Pam (Marty) Rouch; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Jordan; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss her as well.
She will join her parents; her twin brother, Merrill "Hoppy," Little Bud, Duane, Andy, Beryl, Harold Jr., "Junnie," Kenneth "Babe," Mike Downhour; and one sister, Martha "Dutchie" Kilpatrick in heaven.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Kiley, Richard Wickey and Jim Nelson.
