Marilyn Joan Patee (Jennett)

Sioux City - Marilyn Joan Patee, 83, of Sioux City died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at her winter residence in Indian Wells, Calif.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Harold Werley officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com .
Marilyn Patee was born on March 24, 1929, in Sac City, Iowa, the last of six children born to Nellie and Willard Jennett. She was raised and educated in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she met the love of her life, Bruce Patee in high school.
They were married on June 28, 1948, in Storm Lake. After two years in California and a return to Iowa, their two children, David and Lori, were born during their years in Storm Lake. A business opportunity brought the couple to Sioux City in 1958 and it became their permanent home.
Marilyn was an avid golfer and was active in women’s golf at Morningside Country Club, Sioux City Boat Club and Dakota Dunes Country Club, all in Sioux City and Indian Wells Country Club in Palm Springs. She worked in the scoring tent at the Bob Hope Desert Classic for 11 years and delighted in meeting the professional golfers.
She loved to entertain and be entertained. She was a big reader most of her life and enjoyed needlework and hand sewing and left many creations. She belonged to Grace United Methodist for 50 years. She loved to sing and enjoyed the church's music.
Holidays and any reason to gather her family for a meal were very important to her. Christmas with her family was a huge event in her life. Marilyn and Bruce established a winter home in Palm Springs in 1984, where they spent their winters together until his death in 1991. Since his death, Marilyn continued to make the trip every year.
She relished the presence of her children, grandchildren and particularly her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Betty Grieme of Alta Iowa; a sister-in-law, Leah Jennett of California; her children, David and Marta Patee of Dakota Dunes, and Lori and David Davenport of Sioux City; her grandchildren, Dan and Jill Patee of Dakota Dunes, Lindsey and Robert Deeb of Minneapolis, Ashley Davenport and Brent Bates of Los Angles, Mike and Lindsay Davenport of Olathe Kan.; and her eight great-grandchildren, Britton, Natalie and Charlotte Patee, Andrew and Kathryn Deeb, Anna and Burke Davenport and Charles Bates.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Willard Jennett of Storm Lake; three brothers, Gene, Dwight and Donald, all of California; and a sister, Ruth Debelsky of California.
Memorials may be directed the the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
She was blessed with a long and fruitful life. She lived it as she saw fit.
