SIOUX CITY | Marilynn E. Lyon, 82, of Sioux City died May 12, 2012, at Touchstone Living Center in Sioux City.
There will be no services. Her body has been donated to the University of South Dakota. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Marilynn was born on Nov. 20, 1929, in Sioux City, the daughter of Dell and Mary (Maxwell) Pierce. She attended school in Sioux City and graduated from East High in 1948. Marilynn continued her education at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Radiology Tech School and received her degree in 1952.
She married Kenneth Lyon on May 19, 1952, at Dow AFB in Maine. After Ken’s discharge from active duty, the couple made their home in Sioux City. Marilynn worked at various doctors' offices until her children were born and she became a full-time mother.
Marilynn played in several bridge clubs, one of which was together more than 50 years. She loved to play cards with the neighborhood kids and taught several of them to play poker. Marilynn volunteered at Crescent Park Library and Voting Precinct. She enjoyed puzzles of all kinds and enjoyed fishing and taking the kids on picnics.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Lyon of Sioux City; a daughter, Dianne and Bill Sports of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sons, Mark and Nicky Lyon of Spink, S.D., and Pat Lyon of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Tessa and Kelly Shanks, Mindi and Dave McFarlane, Mary and Bryan Fox; Bryan and Cathy Shoultz, and Joe Lyon; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Pierce of Mission Viejo, Calf.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Tom and Dave Pierce.
