Marion E. Baker, 94, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at a local nursing home.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. , at the funeral home.
Marion was born on June 6, 1919 in Sioux City , to Harry and Anna (Grubel) Willis. She attended Sioux City schools and graduated from East High.
She worked as a nanny in Sioux City before uniting in marriage with Arthur S. Baker on Sept. 20, 1941 in Dakota City . The couple made their home in Sioux City until moving to Sergeant Bluff in October 1969. They were both members of Sergeant Bluff Community United Methodist Church .
Marion enjoyed a variety of things from gardening to knitting, crocheting and tatting. She was also a very talented seamstress and loved to cook, making her home comfortable and warm. Marion was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished her family and friends. She touched a lot of people’s lives and made many friends in her lifetime.
Those left to honor her memory include her son, Charles Baker of Orofino, Idaho; daughter, Susan Nyreen of North Sioux City, S.D.; grandson, Tom (Shiloh) VarVais of Enterprise, Kan.; granddaughters, Rebekkah Garb of Orofino, Idaho, and Evelyn Pellens of Little River, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Olive Garcia of Orange, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; sister, Yvonne (Glover); and brothers, Warren Marvin and Milton Willis, in infancy.
