Marjorie Ann Mugge (Mugge)

May 30, 1929 — April 13, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- For Marjorie Ann Mugge of Sioux City, her existence here ended on April 13, 2010.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at St. Luke Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. Marjorie's cremated remains will be laid to rest at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. We loved her and will miss her, until we meet again.
Marjorie Ann Mugge was born in Cherokee, Iowa, on May 30, 1929, to Ernest and Clara (Kopp) Mugge.
In 1950, Marjorie married Gordon Hembd in Ocheyedan, Iowa. They were blessed with six children during their years together. In June 1973, she married Donald J. Pinney who shared her life until his death in January 2010 in Sioux City.
Marjorie's teaching career began also in 1950 in Ocheyedan. After several years at home with her family, she began again in Phoenix, Ariz. She taught for a short time in Colorado Springs, Colo., before finding her way to Sioux City. Marjorie taught special education at Hopkins Elementary (1968-1971), and then learning disabilities at Lowell Elementary (1971-1979), JG Clark Elementary (1979-1982) and Bryant Elementary (1982-1988). In June 1988, she retired from the Sioux City Public School District with 20 years of service.
Those who knew her well will always remember she was really a "princess who was born out of royalty by mistake." She favored and defended the underdog, she believed her beautiful grand and great-grandchildren were all amazingly, too intelligent. She was an avid reader, and an obsessive scrap booker. Besides her family, she loved teaching, writing, painting, and talking.
She left behind many who will celebrate her life and mourn her death, her six children, Nathan (Laurie) Hembd of Sioux City, Seth (Kathy) Hembd of San Antonio, Texas, Joe (Lorie) Hembd of Sioux City, Nancy (Cliff) Roth of Johnston, Iowa, Cindy Harris of Nevada, and Cathy Hembd of Mount View, Hawaii; her 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Marjorie will spend eternity with those who preceded her in death, her parents, Ernest and Clara Mugge; Don Pinney; son-in-law, Dale Harris; sister, Kay Tewes; and her grandson, Kyle Roth.
A memorial has been established in her name for Hospice of Siouxland.
She lived a full life and will be lovingly missed by many who cherish the wonderful memories she left behind.
