Marjorie Mary Zink (Speichinger)

June 11, 1919 — November 23, 2007

Marjorie Mary Zink, 88, of Sioux City died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Gary Snyder officiating. Burial of the ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel.

Marjorie was born June 11, 1919, in Yankton, S.D., the daughter of Peter A. and Laura M. (Kaiser) Speichinger. She was raised in Yankton and attended Sacred Heart School. As a young woman she came to Sioux City, where she attended the Midwest Business College.

On Sept. 16, 1941, she married John A. Zink. The couple made their home in Sioux City, Lawton, Le Mars, Whiting, Iowa, and then returned to Sioux City. John died March 3, 2005, in Sioux City.

She had been a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Sioux City, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Le Mars, St. John's Catholic Church, Onawa, Iowa, and most recently St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux City.

She enjoyed golfing and being in the outdoors, but what she loved most was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She really enjoyed life.

She is survived by two sons, John P. and his wife, Christine of Onawa, Iowa, and Robert E. of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Judie and Douglas Cameron of Magnolia, Miss., and Carol and Robert Ortner of Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Arnold Speichinger of Wilmot, S.D., and Jim and Deanna Speichinger of Kennesaw, Ga.; a sister, Joann Young of Reno, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Melvin, Robert and Richard; and an infant sister.

A memorial had been established in her name for the American Life League.
