Marlene K. Coon

Marlene K. Coon, 60, passed away Friday, March 29, 2024, at a local nursing home.

A memorial service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior.

Marlene Kay Coon was born April 16, 1963, to Warren “Bud” Mack and Darlene Hair in Sioux City, Iowa.   Her family moved around, and she attended schools in Iowa and Texas where they lived.  After high school she worked at Donnelly’s Marketing and Goodwill Industries in Sioux City where she met her husband, Gary Coon.

Marlene and Gary were united in holy matrimony in 1990 in Sioux City.  They lived in Sioux City until 1992 when they moved to the family farm outside of Smithland.  They lived together on the farm until Gary’s passing in 2004.  She then moved to Mapleton where she resided until her passing.

Marlene enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts, writing, and spending time with family and friends.   She always had a deep faith and encouraged others to be happy, helpful and do the right thing.

Grateful for having shared her life are many family members including her brother Brian Mack (Lynette) of Hornick, IA; her nieces, Aine Mack, Cassie Mack, Sammie Mack, and Jasmine Mack; and her in-laws, Jim and Marge Coon of Holly Springs, IA, as well as others.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; and her parents, Warren and Darlene.
