Marlene J. Lindell

Marlene J. Lindell, 79, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, with the Morningside Rose Croix 502 conducting an Eastern Star service, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Marlene was born on Nov. 16, 1935, the daughter of George and Irma (Rohlfs) Kruse. She graduated from Newton (Iowa) High School in 1954. She then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa for one year. It was there that she met her future husband. She completed three years at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines and received her nursing license in 1958.
Marlene was united in marriage to Arthur Lindell on Dec. 28, 1958, in Newton and then moved to Dougherty, Iowa. Her career experiences included three hospitals, two doctors' offices, and retiring as OHN at Sara Lee in New Hampton, Iowa.
Marlene was a charter member of NEIOHN (Occupational Nurses), and Jr. Federated member while living in Nashua, Iowa. After her husband's career brought them to Sioux City in 1991, Marlene then became a volunteer at Countryside and later an employee at the facility in the activities department for five years. In recent years, she belonged to SOROSIS Club, Newton Alumnae, S.C.A.G Morningside, and was a 50-year member of OES. She enjoyed traveling, reading, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband of 56 years, Arthur of Sioux City; daughters, Deborah O'Brien of Waverly, and Paula Saul of Mesa, Ariz.; grandchildren, Tiffany (Tony) Skaggs, Nathaniel O'Brien, Jesse O'Brien, and Michael Saul; and four great-grandchildren, Maxwell, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Remy.
She is preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, Arthur F. and Olga Lindell; and brothers-in-law, Glenn and Arvid.
