Marlene Beverly Rice, 86, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Marlene Beverly Rice was born in Sioux City, on March 5, 1931, to Roy and Edith (Phipps) Wendt. She attended the Sioux City Public Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1949.
On Aug. 31, 1963, Marlene married Vernon Rice and they remained happily together until his passing on July 14, 1995. Marlene loved taking care of her four kids, her grandchildren, and great-grandchild. Family was a very important part of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her four children, Gregg French of Laughlin, Nev., Joni Frantz of Mesa, Ariz., Perry French of Charlotte, N.C., and Brian (Pam) Rice of Omaha; her brother, Ronald Wendt of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews. She was the proud grandmother of six, Danielle Connell, Caleigh, Hannah, Emily, and Jenna Rice, and Crystal Case. Just this past March, Marlene got to meet her great-granddaughter, Navy Connell.
Marlene was preceded in passing by her loving husband, Vernon; her parents, Roy and Edith Wendt; her sisters, Verona, Adell, Darlene, and Ilene; and her brother, Buddy.
