SIOUX CITY -- Marlene Lois Schwartz, 75, of Sioux City died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Marlene was born April 29, 1936, in Pierce, Neb., to Ernest and Clara (Haase) Heckman. She grew up and attended school in Pierce and graduated from Norfolk High School.
She was united in marriage to Thomas Schwartz on July 15, 1952, in Denver, Colo. In 1960, they moved to Sioux City and were lifelong residents since that time. Tom passed away May 5, 2010 in Sioux City. Marlene was employed by Interbake Food Service Co. for 20 years and retired in 1999.
She was of the Lutheran faith. Marlene enjoyed babysitting the grand pugs, family gatherings, spending time with the grandchildren, fishing and camping with the family. She will always be remembered as a caring mother with a heart of gold.
She is survived by four sons, David and Kathy Schwartz of Sioux City, Richard and Becky Schwartz of Sioux City, Jerry and Nancy Schwartz of Merrill, Iowa, and Tommy and Jan Schwartz of Sioux City; one daughter, Janice and Lee Mitchell of Hornick, Iowa; one sister, Phyllis Kouba of Norfolk, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three sons in infancy; and her parents.
