Marsh "Pete" Aaron Rumsey III, 77, of Sioux City, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, in Sioux City.
Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, 6605 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Merrill Muller officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, 1801 Morningside Ave., in Sioux City. Pete was born on July 2, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of the late Marsh Rumsey and the late Maxine (Oleson) Rumsey. He grew up and attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Central High in 1959. Shortly after graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy Reserve and was called to active duty on the USS Essex. He was honorably discharged in August 1961. In October 1962, he joined the U.S. Army Airborne Corps and served in Vietnam. In 1965, he joined Special Forces and became a Green Beret, continuing to serve in Vietnam, earning numerous decorations, medals, commendations, citations and campaign ribbons. He was honorably discharged in October 1968 as a staff sergeant.
After his discharge from the Army, Pete joined the IBEW Local 231 and started his career in the electrician's program working on many different jobs.
Surviving is his sister, Julie Miller of Sioux City; nephews, R.C. Miller, Randy (Mary) Miller; a niece, Melissa (Joe) Wooten, all of Sioux City; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends, Mike and Sean Francis, both of Sioux City.
