SIOUX CITY -- Martha "Marti" B. Anderson, 67, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at her residence following a brief illness. Marti was a 20-year cancer survivor and led a happy life until the terrible disease took her from her family.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael J. Erpelding of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Marti will be cremated following the services. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Marti was born Jan. 15, 1942, in Sioux City, to Albert F. and Martha B. (Fortune) Desy. She attended Sioux City Schools and graduated from Central High School in 1960.
She married Kenton Anderson on July 1, 1972, in Sloan, Iowa. Marti was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She had worked at various jobs including Zenith Corp., the Longbranch Lounge, the T-Bone Lounge and McKinley School. She then became a stay-at-home mom and grandmother, which she enjoyed the most.
Marti enjoyed camping and family get-togethers, especially on the Fourth of July, in addition to family gatherings on Saturdays. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. She also enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles. She was a former member of P.T.O.
Survivors include her husband, Kenton Anderson of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Jimmy and Joann Morey and Chris and Sara Anderson, all of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Sandy and Mike Stokely of Jefferson, S.D., and Jenni and Kenny Angerman of Sioux City; four brothers, Mickey and wife, Marla Desy, Marv and wife, Pam Desy and Marlin Desy, all of Sioux City, and Teddy and wife, JoAnne Desy of California; two sisters, Marilynn Desy and Rowena DeFazio and her husband, Tony, all of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, Tray Harder, Alan, Jordan and Alex Morey, Carter, Riley and Braydon Anderson, Kreighton Stokely, Shyanne Stokely (her only granddaughter), Blake, Brady and Chase Angerman; her first great-grandchild is due in the spring of 2010; as well as many others that she called her grandkids (you know who you are); and her mother-in-law, Iris Anderson of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Fortune; a brother, Phil Desy; her father-in-law, Kenneth Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Robert Fortune and Steve Case; a sister-in-law, Alvina Desy; and three nephews, Kenny Fortune, Shannon and Matt Desy.
