Marvena Blanche Alvarez

Marvena B. Alvarez, 78, died Thursday, July 21, 2022, at her residence in Sioux City, IA.

A visitation will be 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave. A funeral service will be 10:00 am Friday, July 29, 2022, at First Evangelical Free Church with burial to follow in Graceland Park Cemetery. Marvena Blanche Petzoldt, the daughter of Edward and Hazel (Ronfeldt) Petzoldt was born April 26, 1944, in Sioux City, IA. She was baptized into the Lutheran Faith. Marvena graduated from Westwood Community School.

Marvena married John M. “Mick” Alvarez on August 1, 1964 in Sioux City, to which two children were born. Marvena was employed at Hy Vee for 31 years. She attended First Evangelical Free Church.

Marvena enjoyed playing several types of cards with friends and family, taking walks with her kids and her special “4-legged kids”, her flowers, and gardening.

Marvena is survived by her children, Ken L. Alvarez of Sioux City, Brenda A. Alvarez of Sioux City; her siblings, Lila (Roger) Irwin of Kuna, ID, Dwight (Donna) Petzoldt of Merrill, IA; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Hazel Petzoldt; husband, John M. “Mick” Alvarez; brother, Don Petzoldt; two nephews, Tony Alvarez and Michael Scott Irwin; grandparents; and several cousins.
