Mary Ann Aasen, 88, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at Sunrise Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with the Rev. Tom LoVan of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Mary Ann was born on Feb. 13, 1929, to Einar and Christine (Moen) Myklegard in Irene, S.D. She graduated from East High School in 1947. On Aug. 5, 1949, Mary Ann married Vernon Aasen in Sioux City. She worked as a radio assembly worker for Zenith Radio Parts.
Organizations Mary Ann was a member of include Floyd Golf Women’s League, Elk Point Women’s Golf, Morningside Lutheran Church, Dorcas Circle at Morningside Lutheran Church, Morningside Morning Glories Quilting Group, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. She was also treasurer for the Sons of Norway.
Mary Ann enjoyed playing golf, camping and all types of card games.
Mary Ann is survived by her sons, Gerald (Kerstin) Aasen of Malmo, Sweden, and David (Connie) Aasen of Lake View, Iowa; daughters, Christine Aasen of Star, Idaho, and Karen (Steven) Sabasta of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Jeremiah Leuenhagen; Waylon Cochrane; Mark Aasen; Ann Marie Aasen Postello; Dayton Sabasta, Stephanie Bowder, and Christopher Sabasta; and great-grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Leuenhagen; Waylon Jr, Lilly, and Violet Cochrane; Elise, Anders and Hendrik Aasen; Kamryn, Carson, and Jacob Postello, Jesse, Jaxon and Jaci Bowder; a sister, Leona Clark.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Aasen; grandson, Craig Aasen; and a sister, Doris LeClair.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to Hospice of Siouxland.
