Mary Ann Andersen entered eternal rest on January 16, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born May 15, 1951, the daughter of Alfred W. Fox and Marguerite “Peggy” (Spring) Fox in Sioux City, Iowa. Mary grew up in Leeds and was one of six kids. She attended St. Michaels grade school and graduated from Heelan High School in 1969.
Mary married Thomas E. Hill on December 13, 1969, and then later married David C. Andersen on April 12, 1974. After attending Humbolt Institute of airline technology in Minneapolis, MN in 1970, she chose to continue her education at WITCC earning a degree in mechanical engineering. Mary then began a career at AC&R specialists where she worked until the early 1990’s. Mary furthered her education at Morningside college and graduated in 1999 with a BS degree in education. Following her graduation, Mary served as a substitute teacher for the Sioux City Community School district, positively impacting the lives of many students until her retirement in 2017.
Mary was a proud mother who raised her four boys by herself. She is survived by her husband David Andersen, and her sons, Thomas Hill, and Daniel Andersen. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren Hannah, Matthew, Alex, Brianna, Beau, Summer, Isaiah, Matteo, and Jeffrey Jr. Mary is remembered fondly by her brother Bill and Felicia Fox, and her sister Ruth Lesline. Her extended family includes her Brother-in-law Rick Andersen and his wife Rose, as well as three sisters-in-law Didi Fox, Leanne Fox, and Valencia Fox. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Mary had a variety of hobbies and interests that she cherished. She enjoyed drawing, working on puzzles, capturing moments through photography, and found peace in gardening. She was a frequent visitor to local casinos and loved immersing herself into the world of reading and collecting books. In addition to these pursuits, she dedicated time to learning about the history of Sioux City and the Leeds area.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Peggy Fox, her sons Steven and Jeffrey Andersen, her brother James and Alberta Fox, Donald Fox, and Kenneth Fox, her sister Margarite Ann, and her brother-in-law Jim Lesline.
Cremation has taken place, per her wishes. A memorial mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday January 28th, 2025, at Holy Cross Parish, St. Michaels Catholic Church, located at 2223 Indian Hills Drive, Sioux City, IA, with visitation one hour prior. Luncheon at the church will be served for family and friends after the service.
