M. Kathleen "Katie" Brown, 87, of Sioux City, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Katie Arnett, the daughter of William and Eva (Angus) Arnett, was born on June 23, 1930, in Arcola, Saskatchewan, Canada. She moved to Iowa at a young age. She was proud to become a U.S. citizen. She attended Central High School.
On Nov. 9, 1946, Katie was united in marriage with Russell Brown in Sioux City. She was a homemaker and mother. Russell died on May 28, 2013.
Katie was a member of the PTA, T.O.P.S., Birthday and Card Clubs. Friday night get-togethers with her family at her house were the highlight of her week. She enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles, playing cards, and making dolls. Katie also liked to crochet, and made afghans for all the members of the family. In retirement, Katie and Russell enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends throughout Canada and the United States.
Katie was very devoted to her children and grandchildren.
Katie is survived by her children, Bob (Diane) Brown, Bonnie Lester, Dick (Connie) Brown, Elson (Mindee) Brown, Bill Brown, and Lisa (Brian) Talbott, all of Sioux City; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and two on the way; four great-great-grandchildren; friend, Linda Swanson; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Bill Arnett; a sister, Pat and and her husband, Larry Reed; and best friends, Betty and Kenny Swanson and LaVonne Leaver.
