Mary Joan Cain

Mary Joan Cain, 82, of Sioux City, passed away on Aug. 10, 2018 at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Michael Cooper officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Condolences can be left online for the family at www.christysmith.com .
Mary Jo was born on June 3, 1936, in Westfield, Iowa, to Ruben and Pearl (Lines) Tague. The family moved to Climbing Hill, Iowa a few years later and then to Sioux City, where Mary Jo attended school, graduating from Central High School in 1954.
Mary Jo married Raymond Cain on July 14, 1956 in Sioux City. She was a stay at home mom, raising their seven children. Mary was an election worker in the 1980s and 1990s, she served as the secretary of the Air Force Association, secretary-treasurer of the Machinists Union Local 1426 and secretary-treasurer of the Labor Council AFLCIO.
She enjoyed sewing, long Sunday car rides and babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her four daughters, Mary Jean (Kent) Vigil of Rock Springs, Wyo., Susan Garner of Sioux City, Lauri (Jeff) Norby of Sioux City, and Amy Mitchell (Roger) of Sloan, Iowa; three sons, Raymond R. (Dixie) Cain of Omaha, Rodney Cain of Le Mars, Iowa, and Rex Cain of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Tabatha Cain, Bonny O'Brien, Chad Cain, Alicia Cain, Aaron Cain, Travis Street, Adam Sanford, Benjamin Vigil, and Richard Norby; eight great-grandchildren, Liam O'Brien, Rocco and Catalina Cain, Kaitlyn Cain-Trudell, Hannah and Halle Cain, Vivian Vigil-Mitchell, Vayda Cain, and Justin and Carli Lake; a sister, Betty Stuart of Salem Ark.; and a brother, Clifford Tague of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Andrew Sanford; two brothers; and three sisters.
