MOVILLE, Iowa -- Mary Margaret Dorn, 84, of Omaha, Neb., former Moville resident, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008, at The Parson House in Omaha, following a long illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, with the Rev. Mark J. Stoll, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Mary Margaret was born on Aug. 12, 1923, in Alcester Township, S.D., the daughter of Harry and Josephine (Collins) Deane. She attended schools in Sioux Falls and Brookings, S.D., and graduated from Brookings High School in 1941.
She married James F. Dorn on Nov. 27, 1944, in Mitchell, S.D. Mr. Dorn died on May 11, 2003, in Sioux City. Mary lived in the eastern South Dakota area until 1956, when the family moved to Moville. She had been in Omaha for the last five years.
She worked as a legal secretary for Creasey, Metcalf & Thompson Law Firm for more than 20 years. She then worked as a church secretary and office worker for eight years.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Moville Women's Club, Moville Senior Center and The Meadows. She enjoyed playing bridge and knitting. Mary was proud of her Irish ancestry and was able to visit Ireland. She also enjoyed looking into genealogy.
Survivors include two sons, Charles "Chuck" Dorn and Donald Dorn and his wife, Vicki, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Kathryn "Kate" Willer of Omaha; three grandchildren, Jodi Grice and her husband, Clayton, Clint Dorn and Alexus Dorn; and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Grice, Cashon Grice and Garrett Grice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Betty Jo Jacobsen.
Pallbearers will be Paul Jacobsen, Jim Jacobsen, Scott Jacobsen, Harry Jacobsen and Joe Jacobsen. Honorary pallbearers will be Dale J. Schreiner, Ray Dorn and Edmund Jacobsen.
