HINTON, Iowa -- Mary J. Ellsworth-Ofert, 64, of Hinton died Tuesday, July 31, 2007, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center following a five-year illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gerald F. Feierfeil of Nativity Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mary was born July 11, 1943, in Sioux City, the daughter of Donald L. and June R. (Burke) Ellsworth. She was raised in Sioux City and had lived in the Siouxland area most of her life.
She married Jerry Ofert on Dec. 26, 1993, in Hinton. She was employed as a nurse's aide for Ana-Care and Mercy Home Health Care for 21 years. She retired five years ago due to health reasons.
The couple belonged to the Tri-State Cruisers (street rods). She loved to travel, dance and work in her flower garden. She also collected wall pockets.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Ofert of Hinton; her mother June R. Ellsworth of Sioux City; five children, Ronald Brown of Columbus, Neb., Sonja R. and her husband, David Kazar of Pittsburgh, Pa., Gwen L. and her husband, Jeff Beaulieu of Hinton, Donald J. Verderber of Palm Springs, Calif., and Kylene J. Law of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four brothers, Donald W. Ellsworth and his wife, Mary of North Richland Hills, Texas, James L. Ellsworth and his wife, Trudy of Seagoville, Texas, Michael W. Ellsworth of Sioux City and Thomas J. Ellsworth of Irving, Texas; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Mike Ofert and his wife, Nicole of Moville, Iowa, Matt J. Ofert of Omaha and Naidene R. Ofert and her family; eight stepgrandchildren; two nieces; four nephews; five grandnephews; and a grandniece.
She was preceded in death by her father; a daughter, Rosemary Brown; and a brother, Joseph A. Ellsworth.
Pallbearers will be Don Ellsworth, Thom Ellsworth, Tim Ellsworth, Ronnie Dale Raymond, Jeff Beaulieu and David Kazar.
