Mary Margaret Fitch, 91, of Sioux City entered into eternal life Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Roger A. Augustine and the Rev. Merlin J. Schrad officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Mary, the former Mary Margaret McCormick, was born on Feb. 20, 1922, in Chicago, Ill., to John and Mary McCormick. She attended grade school, high school, and Business School for Women in Chicago and worked for Carson, Pirie, Scott as a store detective. That is where she met her future husband, Frank Fitch.
They were married on Jan. 3, 1944. In 1945, they came to Sioux City. They were active in many organizations during their 64 years of marriage. Frank died in September 2008.
They loved to travel together, to play golf, and to dance. She has been a member of Blessed Sacrament Church for almost 67 years, where she was active in the women's confraternity and several of her children’s school activities. Mary loved a party and she loved to dance. She was always one of the first to show up with food when friends were in need. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Survivors are her daughters and spouses, Jean and Bob Kudelko of Leawood, Kan., Judy and Rick Hoak of Sioux City, and Mary Frances and John Campbell of Leawood; her sons and spouses, Jim and Mary Jane Fitch of Omaha, John and Margie Fitch of Sioux City, and Kevin and Jodi Fitch of Bloomington, Minn.; 20 grandchildren, Christine Miceli, Lt. Col. Robert Kudelko USMC, Cathy Kudelko, Ann, Eric, and Christopher Hoak, Carolyn Rogers, Katie Lazure, Dan Fitch, Catherine Foss, T.J., Brian, William and Gary Fitch, Scott, Kevin, and Mark Campbell, Charlie, Ryan, and Kevin Fitch; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank; her parents; and two sisters, Eileen and Lorraine.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been set up in her name for Blessed Sacrament, Heelan High School and Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
