SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Mary E. Forbes, 88, of South Sioux City passed away July 10, 2011, at a South Sioux City nursing home.
Abiding by her wishes, the body was cremated. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Wolff of Riverside Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. until service time Thursday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mary was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Jackson, Neb., to Benjamin and Stella (Baney) Barber. She grew up and attended school in South Sioux City, graduating in 1940.
Mary married Chas Lynch, they later divorced. She then married Darold Hamar. In 1970, she married Bill Forbes. He passed away in 1980. Mary was co-owner and office manager for 25 years at Hamar Construction. In her later years, she worked as a cashier and receptionist at various places.
Survivors include three children, Luann and Lee Jager, Sherry and Larry Monk and Darold "Bob" and Nancy Hamar; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, Gerald Barber; a special friend, Shirley White; nieces and nephews; and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; an infant son; a grandson; her parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Memorials are to be directed to the family in her name.
