Mary F. Godfrey

Mary Godfrey, 77, of Sioux City passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tim Bonney officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Mary was born on Nov. 22, 1937, in Orange City, Iowa, to Julius and Frances (VanderStoep) Talsma. Mary moved to Sioux City at a young age. She attended Whittier, East Junior High and graduated from East High School in 1955.
She married Clark Godfrey on June 24, 1960, at Grace United Methodist. To this union three children were born. Mary worked at Bomgaars beginning at the age of 17, taking a short break only to raise her children. She took great pride in her work, loved her work family and continued to work there until her passing.
Mary enjoyed attending all family gatherings, teaching Sunday School to 2- and 3-year-olds, Tri T Club, Class of '55 Reunion committee, baking special cakes for every occasion, bridge clubs and eating out with the girls. She especially loved spending time with her sisters, and spoiling her grandchildren. Mary always made an extra effort to attend every grandchild's events. She was always serving others and thinking of them first. Mary lived life to the fullest, right to the last moment and went out with a bang at the Washington D.C. 4th of July Fireworks Celebration. She was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her husband, Clark Godfrey; a daughter Jeni (Steve) Snyder; sons Cary (Sharon) Godfrey, and Dennis (DeeDee) Godfrey; grandchildren, Austin and Dillon Godfrey, Wade Stoos, John (Teri) Stoos, Luke, Annie, Mariah, and Emily Snyder, Jesse and Jordan Godfrey, and Shayla Smith (Luke Driscoll); great-grandchildren, Kenzie, Karlie, Gavin, Isabella, and Frankie Stoos, and Reign Driscoll; great-great-granddaughter, Jozlynn Thompson; sisters, Kay Godfrey and Judy Verdoorn; brother-in-law, Cordell Hull; and numerous Godfrey-in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents; granddaughter, Abby Snyder; brothers, Glenn and Bobby Talsma; and sisters, Janice Frasier, Karilyn Merchant, and Arta Hull.
