Mary L. Hansen

Sioux City, IA - Mary L. Hansen, 92, of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away peacefully at Unity Point Hospital with family at her side on Thursday, December, 7, 2023. 

A memorial service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux City with visitation one hour prior.  Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com.

Mary was born September 2, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa.  Mary (Eik) attended school in Sioux City and graduated from Central High School. She married Harold E. Hansen on April 29,1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member her entire life.

She was a busy mother to Jean and Kris and active in church, Loess Hills Chapter #502 Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile.  In addition, she was a busy gardener, canning and freezing the bounty from their Buchanan Avenue garden. With all of her involvement in organizations, she was often found cooking, sewing, crocheting, or doing whatever was needed.

In their retirement, Mary and Harold enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren. They also travelled with their extended family to new destinations.

Mary is survived by her daughter Jean (Chaz) Calhoun, Tomah, WI, son Kris Hansen of Washington State, grandsons Carl (Esther) Calhoun of Groveland, CA and Paul (Emily) Calhoun  and great grandchildren Fergus, Walter and Henrietta of West Bend, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother.
