Mary C. Hays, 89, of Lawton passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at a Lawton assisted living facility after a brief illness.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Mary was born on Sept. 22, 1923 in Stamford, S.D. She was the daughter of George R and Nancy C. (Bates) Davidson. She was raised in Lawton and graduated from Lawton High School in 1941.
On May 2, 1947, she married Le Roy James "Jim" Hays in Sioux City. She worked as the office manager for the Wang Insurance Company at the Sioux City Stock Yards for several years. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Western Iowa Telephone Company for many years until she retired in 1984.
She was a longtime member of Community Presbyterian Church in Lawton and the Lawton American Legion Auxiliary. Mary and Jim loved attending the grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events whenever possible. Mary enjoyed water aerobics, bowling and bowled in three bowling leagues until a few months ago. She was a great cook and would help anybody out at any time whether it was getting their mail or cooking them a meal or just visiting with friends. She was a person who loved helping others. Jim passed away on Nov. 24, 1993, in Sioux City.
She is survived by three sons and a daughter, Bill and Ruth of Lawton, Suzanne and Jon Linck of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Bob of Lawton, and Brad and Sabrina of Reno Nev.; six grandchildren, Chad and Yvette Linck, Sean and Lindsey Linck, Brett and Stacey Hays, Kip and Kelly Hays, Jeremy Hays, Nikki and Larry Jones; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman and Joyce Davidson of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Georgina and her husband, Tom Grigg, and Jean Eberly and Carol Williams; and two brothers, Chauncey and his wife, Joyce, and Marshall and his wife, Canice Davidson.
A memorial has been established in her name for the Lawton Community Presbyterian Church and Hospice of Siouxland.
