Mary Beth Jensen, 45, of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, at Embassy Healthcare Community in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Mater Dei Parish Nativity Center. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Mary Beth was born in Sioux City, on Nov. 2, 1972, to James and Barbara (Bauerly) Jensen. She graduated from East High School in 1991. After graduating, Mary attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, before transferring to Iowa State University where she earned a degree in early childhood education in 1996. From 1996 to 2015, Mary was a substitute teacher for the Sioux City School District. While she was a substitute teacher, Mary also worked at Argosy Casino for 10 years and J.C. Penney for five years.
Mary loved crafts and cooking. She also loved helping others out. Mary was a leader for the Girl Scouts for 10 years as well as a member of Mater Dei Parish Nativity Center, Order of the Rose, and Alpha Phi Omega, a coed service fraternity at Iowa State.
She is survived by her brother, David (Lori) Jensen of Onawa, Iowa; niece, Emma; a nephew, Connor; her uncle, Gail (Betty) Bauerly; several cousins and friends; two dogs, Winnie and Nugget; and one cat, Zippy.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her aunts, Marilyn and Annetta; and her uncles, Jack and Gordon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Mary's name to the Sioux City Humane Society or Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa.
