Mary Keating

October 2, 1919 — April 3, 2015

Mary Elizabeth Keating, 95, died peacefully in Columbia, South Carolina on April 3. She had been an Omaha resident and a dedicated Cornhusker fan for more than 70 years.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Omaha, NE. There will be a visitation with the family present from 9:15 until service time at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa. The Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Sioux City, IA. is handling the arrangements.
Mary Elizabeth was born in Sioux City, Iowa, she attended Central High School, there and the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She began a government service career at the former Sioux City Air base and soon moved to Des Moines, Iowa to work for the Department of Agriculture. The remainder of her career was spent at Strategic Air Command, Deputy Chief of Staff Comptroller as an Executive Secretary. While in that position, she received numerous awards but was most proud of the Meritorious Service Award.
After retiring in December 1974, she spent time doing the things she loved, playing golf with the Offutt Ladies Golf Association, singing in the church choir, traveling, volunteering at the Omaha Playhouse, the Bergan Mercy hospital gift shop and knitting for the Right to Life.
Mary Elizabeth is survived by 19 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her, parents, William Martin and Vera Keating, a brother William Boyd and sister in law Carrie Keating. Memorial may be given to Christ the King Church in Omaha, NE.
