SALIX, Iowa -- Mary Lurene Konz, 94, of Salix died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at her residence in Salix.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Salix. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Mary was born May 16, 1916, in Jackson, Minn., the daughter of John and Louise (Kreber) Wilhelmi. At an early age, the family moved from Jackson to Remsen, Iowa, where their family farmed. Mary graduated from Remsen St. Mary's High School in 1934.
She married Bernard Konz on Feb. 20, 1939, in Remsen. Together they made their home in the Salix area where they farmed. After Bernard's death in 1987, Mary remained on the farm.
She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Tabernacle Society and the Legion of Mary. Caring for her family was always her highest priority. Mary also enjoyed cooking, gardening and tending to her chickens.
Survivors include two sons, James and Patsy Konz of Pilot Point, Texas, and William and Michelle Konz of Vancouver, Wash.; five daughters, LouAnn and Don Bauer of Lakewood, Colo., Mary Lynne Nelson of Salix, Therese Konz of Antioch, Calif., Kathy and Jim Wright and Madison, Ala., and Gerri and Greg Crook of Hornick, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; her parents, John and Louise; a son-in-law, Charles Nelson; a twin brother, Lawrence; four brothers, Raymond, Arnold, Edmund and Gerald; and a sister, Sylvia.
