SIOUX CITY -- Mary Naryka, 85, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at the Willow Creek Memory Care Center in Las Vegas.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig A. Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to

Mary was born on April 17, 1925, in Sioux City, daughter of Joseph and Idala Naryka. She graduated from East High School in 1943. She then attended the St. Joseph College of Nursing for three years. After graduation, she went on to specialize in anesthesiology. Mary lived most of her life in Sioux City. She was employed as a nurse anesthetist in the Sioux City area for 44 years. She retired in 2002, and then moved to Las Vegas.
She was a longtime member of the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews in Missouri, Georgia, Texas, Florida, and Nevada.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen, Adam, Kostha, Joe, Josephine and Jenny.
