Mary Beatrice Newton of Sioux City passed away Oct. 2, 2014 at Holy Spirit Retirement Center.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at church. She was born on July 18, 1920, in Volin, S.D., to Anderson and Alice (McDonald) Long. Mary married Clair Charles Newton on Nov. 20, 1940 in Centerville, S.D. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a beautician for 55 years and worked out of her home until she retired in 1991.
Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Hairdresser Association. Mary was a kind and giving person, who helped several neighbors and friends in their senior years.
Survivors include her daughters, Joanne Newton and Madeleine Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and seven brothers and sisters.
