Mary Lou Steffe, 86, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5000 Military Road, in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington Township Cemetery, Moville, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be noon until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Mary was born on March 8, 1928, in Moville, Iowa, to Wade and Ethel (Tracewell) Lacy. She grew up on the family farm near Moville and attended school at Moville Public Schools.
She married H.C. "Bud" Steffe Jr. on Dec. 22, 1944. The couple farmed near Moville, Kingsley and Hinton, Iowa, before moving into Sioux City in 1971. Mary worked as a custodian at the Davidson Building for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also a friend of Bill W.
Mary was a very caring and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved taking care of her family and spending time with them. Her interests included country music, traveling, shopping and keeping her house neat and clean. She always had her hair and nails done to perfection.
Surviving are her loving husband, H. C. Steffe, Jr. of Sioux City; son, Robert Steffe of Sioux City; daughters, Mary and Harold Vugteveen of Milford, Iowa, and Barbara Taylor of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Becky, Amy, Jenny, Ronnie, Brandon and Erin; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers; and sisters.
