SIOUX CITY -- Mary Ann Shaw, 89, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital following a courageous battle with breast cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mary was born in Elkton, S.D., on May 18, 1922, to Frank and Mary Ann (Paskert) Klosterman. She graduated from Cathedral High School.
She married Nick Stoos I, who died in 1967. She later married Russell Shaw. They were married for more than 40 years. Russell died on Sept. 8, 2010. They wintered in Texas for more than 30 years.
She was best known as the first woman to sell insurance for John Hancock in Sioux City.
Survivors include a son, Frank and Renee Stoos of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Virginia Hurlbutt of New York; sisters, Rosie and Marvie Mai of Omaha, and Donna and Marv Peck of Marcus, Iowa; brothers, Jim and Shirley Frank of South Sioux City, and the Rev. Dick Frank; grandchildren, Michael Stoos of Sioux City, Joe and Jody Stoos of Homer, Neb., Ben Stoos of Sioux City, Wade Stoos of Le Mars, Iowa, John and Terri Stoos of Sioux City, Tracy and Tom Everett of Sioux City, and Kristy and Chris Popken of Sioux City; and great-grandchildren, Matt and Josie Everett, McKenzie, Gavin, and Karlie Stoos, Noah and Peyton Popken, Elizabeth and Kyle Stoos, Kelsie Stoos and Frankie and Isabella Stoos.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, Russ Shaw; her first husband, Nick Stoos I; a son, Nick Stoos II; brothers, Hiney, Louie, Francie and Ed Klosterman; and a sister, Leona Frank.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to the family for future designation.
