Mary Elizabeth Thiltgen (Kyte)

SIOUX CITY | Mary E Thiltgen, 91, of Sioux City, and Myrtle Beach, S.C., died on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012 at The Retreat at Brightwater in Myrtle Beach.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a 4 p.m. rosary said by Catholic Daughters of America, at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Mary was born on Dec. 25, 1920 to John and Veronica Kyte in Burbank, S.D. She was raised in Burbank and graduated from Vermillion High School. She attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, S.D., and graduated with a teaching degree from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, S.D. Following graduation, she taught in a one-room elementary school in Buffalo, S.D., where she taught grades 1 through 8.
She married Wilbert Thiltgen on Sept. 13, 1943 in Vermillion, S.D. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 13, 2003. Following Wilbert’s release from the Army in 1945, they moved to Sioux City. She was a homemaker and an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and the Catholic Daughters.
She was an active sponsor of her children’s activities while they attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Heelan High School. She belonged to several book clubs and bridge groups. In addition she enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Republican Women’s Club. Following Wilbert’s death in 2003, she resided at North Park in Sioux City until 2011, when she moved to The Retreat at Brightwater in Myrtle Beach.
She is survived by her four children and their spouses, John and Barbara Thiltgen of Myrtle Beach, Kathleen and Jim Moser of Omaha, David and Cindy Thiltgen of Omaha, and Therese and Tom Tate of Van Wert, Ohio. She is the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and great-grandmother of 20 and a half great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters.
