Mary "Kay" Catherine Walding, 94, of Sioux City, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2017, at a local hospital.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Mary was born on April 23, 1923, in Clare, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Ruth (Hickey) Condon. She attended and graduated from Pomeroy, Iowa schools. Following high school, she attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City and graduated in 1944.
She was united in marriage with Bernard Walding on June 9, 1947, in Pomeroy, Iowa. Bernard preceded Mary in death on Feb. 2, 2005. The couple moved to Sioux City following their marriage and made it their lifetime home. Mary was a stay-at-home mother until her family was grown. In 1976, she began working at Indian Hills Care Center, from where she retired in 1988.
Mary was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church and was a lifetime member of the Altar Society. She loved traveling with her husband and gardening. She was a member of a local sewing club for more than 50 years and still enjoyed visiting with her former co-workers. Mary adored her grandchildren and they adored her.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Walding and Kathleen Walding-Bennett; her sons, Joe Walding and his wife, Sue, and Pat Walding and his wife, Becky, all of Sioux City; her daughter, Ann Walding-Phillips and her husband, David, of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Emmett Condon of Pittsburgh, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Tim; and three sisters.
Memorials in her name should be made to Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
