Maurice Lee Larson was born July 8, 1959, in Sioux City, the son of LeRoyce Larson and Beverly Kay (Morris) Larson. He was raised in Sioux City, graduating from East High School in 1978. Growing up, Morey spent a great deal of time at his grandparents' farm in Hornick, Iowa. He was a member of the 185th Iowa Air National Guard; with years of dedicated service and proof of leadership skills, he was assigned the position of lead crew chief of an F-16 fighter jet and KC-135 refueling aircraft. He retired in March 2009 with 28 years of service. Following his retirement, he continued to stay busy as a courtesy driver for Charlie Zook Motors.
