Mercedes C. Tilton (Jacoby)

Mercedes C. Tilton, 100, of Sioux City died Sunday, June 16, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Ryan Baum of the United Congregational Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mercedes was born on July 4, 1912, in Earling, Iowa, the daughter of Hubert and Lena (Bissen) Jacoby. She was raised in Earling and moved to Sioux City in her early 20s.
On Sept. 12, 1938, she married Neil Tilton in Elk Point, S.D. Neil died in November 1990.
Mercedes was a member of United Congregational Church of Christ. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her son, William of Sioux City; her daughter, Carol Trongaard of Eules, Texas; five grandchildren, Kim, Jerry, Jeff, Michael, and Mark; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Severa Pauley, Lucille Allen, and Marjorie Anholt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and five brothers and sisters, Marie Klein, Leander Jacoby, William Jacoby, Benilda Jacoby, and Joseph Jacoby
