CARLISLE, Iowa -- Michael Perry Culbertson, 71, of Carlisle, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, July 22, 2011, at the Bright Kavanaugh House in Des Moines, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mayflower Congregational Church, Sioux City. The Rev. Dan Lozer will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Michael was born on March 22, 1940, in Sioux City, the son of Kenneth and Grace (Rye) Culbertson. He was a lifelong resident of Sioux City until he moved to Carlisle three years ago. He worked in sales and support for FIMCO in Sioux City for 33 years and retired in 2003. In 1984 he married Mary Lou Balius in Sioux City. He was a member of Mayflower Congregational Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and was very interested in trains.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of Indianola, Iowa; sons and daughters, Mark and Angela Culbertson of Clive, Iowa, Dawn Culbertson (Ron) of San Diego, Calif., Ann and Bob Shepherd of Indianola, Jacqueline and Tom Udell of Galesburg, Mich., Janice and Todd Waggoner of Lockport, Ill., Mary Beth Jones of Sioux City, Neal R. Balius Jr. (Karen) of Spring Park, Minn., Michael and Rachel Balius of McKenzie, Tenn., and Robert and Stacey Balius of Sioux City; 22 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and a sister in Law, Sharon Culbertson of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Richard Culbertson.
