SIOUX CITY -- Michael Albert Desy, 71, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Navy. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Michael was born June 24, 1939, in Sioux City, the son of Albert and Martha (Fortune) Desy. He attended school in Leeds. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1957. He retired and was honorably discharged on Aug. 9, 1977.
He married Marla Anderson on Aug. 15, 1987. He worked for a short time for Animal Control, then went to work at AGP. He worked there for 23 years, retiring in 2001.
Michael enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, cooking all sorts of things, fixing bicycles for the kids, going to flea markets, collecting kerosene lamps among other things and taking photographs. He took a lot of photos throughout his life.
Survivors include his wife, Marla Desy of Sioux City; a son, Michael and Megan Desy of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Mikki and Duane Van Osdel of Jefferson, S.D.; a stepson, Jeff Anderson and his fiancee, Kristin of Sioux City; eight grandchildren, Abby, Amanda, Avery, Karisa, Kale, Tamara, Nicholas and Austin; three brothers, Fred and Marge Desy of Sioux City, Marv and Pam Desy of Sioux City; and Melvin and JoAnn Desy of California; and two sisters, Rowena and Tony DeFazio of Sioux City and Marilynn Desy of Sioux City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Phil and Marlin Desy; and two sisters, Martha Anderson and Dorothy Fortune.
