Michael Lee Norton

July 19, 1957 — November 9, 2009

JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Michael Lee Norton, 52, of rural Jefferson died Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson, with the Rev. David Roehrich officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com .

Mike was born July 19, 1957, in Sioux City, the son of Robert "Bob" and Mary (Lubben) Norton. The family lived in South Sioux City for a few years prior to moving to Jefferson in 1970. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1975. He had continued to live on his farm outside of Jefferson since that time.

On Sept. 8, 1984, he married Tami Dailey at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Jefferson.

He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, St. Peter's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 11315. He loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Tami; three daughters, Maggie, Allie and Emily Norton, all at home; his father, Bob Norton of Jefferson; a paternal grandmother, Ferne Norton of Sioux City; his brother, George Norton of Jefferson; his parents-in-law, Dick and Peg Dailey of Jefferson; sisters-in-law, Sue (Brent) Millard of Rockford, Minn., and Kate Dailey of Sioux Falls, S.D.; brother-in-law, Bill (Brenda) Dailey of Jefferson; eight nieces and nephews; and a grandniece.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
