SIOUX CITY -- Michael B. Thies, 53, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wall Lake, Iowa. Burial will be in Wall Lake Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to

Michael was born on May 19, 1958, in Ida Grove, Iowa, to Bernard and Mary (Murphy) Thies. He graduated from Odebolt-Arthur High School in 1976. He received an associates of applied science degree in hotel/motel and restaurant management in 1986.
Michael always had diverse interests. His accomplishments included being a farmer, truck driver, hotel manager, salesman, machine shop worker, and casino dealer. But the most cherished position he held was caregiver for his mother.
Survivors include his brothers, Gerry and Barbara Thies of New York, N.Y., Don and Peg Thies of St. Louis, Mo., Bob and Paula Thies of Algona, Iowa, Dick and Cam Neumann of Carroll, Iowa, and Wayne and Evelyn Neumann of Charter Oak, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Marty Johnson of Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lois Johnson.
