SIOUX CITY -- Michael W. Thompson, 73, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital after a lengthy illness.
A celebration of life service will be 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Morningside Church of Christ. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Michael was born in Sioux City. He was a wonderful man who loved to joke around. He was a devoted Democrat. He watched nothing but politics on TV. He loved to travel, garden and do yard work. He had much pride in his possessions. Michael was a selfless man and loved his family.
Survivors include his lifelong partner, Lea Thompson; children, Michael (Cassy) Thompson, Susanne (Tim) Anderson and Shelley Rivers, all of Sioux City, Deborah Thompson of Virginia, Scott (Maggie) Kaplan of New Mexico, Adam (Jenny) Crow of Texas and David Kinnaman of Sioux City; sisters, Barbara Jennings and Mary (Dave) Hansen, all of Sioux City; brothers, Joe (Joyce) Thompson of Minnesota, Ed Thompson of Florida and Thomas (Elaine) Thompson of Idaho; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Alford; a brother, Robert C. Thompson; and a son, Mark Thompson.
