Mildred L. Fitchner, 97, of Lawton, Iowa, formerly of Moville, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville, with the Rev. Barb Spaulding officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery at Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are with Christy-Smith McCulloch Chapel in Moville.
Mildred was born May 27, 1918, in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Hans and Henrietta (Zellmer) Hamann. She grew up on a farm east of Anthon, Iowa, one of six children. Mildred attended Manilla Independent Country School, and graduated from Anthon High School in 1936. After graduation, she worked at the Anthon Post Office for several years.
Mildred married Wayne V. Fitchner on Feb. 7, 1945, at Anthon. They made their home in a farm home east of Anthon. They became the parents of three children, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Mildred attended Ellis School of Cosmetology in Sioux City, graduating in April 1952. The family moved to Moville, where Mildred opened her beauty shop and ran it for 50 years.
Mildred was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Moville since 1952 and the church's Lea Ruth's Circle. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for more than 50 years, Moville Senior Center, the Berry Patch Dancers, National Hairdressers Association and the Neighborly Arts Club.
She enjoyed sewing, crafts, crossword puzzles and trips to the casino.
Survivors include her two sons, Doug (Carol) Fitchner of Florida and Bill (Becky) Fitchner of Sioux Falls, S.D.; five grandchildren, Mark, Craig, Jake and Elizabeth Fitchner, and Bill Burkhart; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne; daughter, Charmyne Sanderson; three brothers, Alfred, Bill and John Hamann; and two sisters, Marion Rippke and Margaret Milligan.
Mildred's family thanks the Char-Mac staff for the great care Mildred received during her time there, and to the Hospice of Siouxland staff for their loving care.
