Sioux City - Mildred A. Poss, 92, of Sioux City passed away Aug. 10, 2013, at Holy Spirit Retirement.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a rosary at 5:45 p.m., the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
She was born on July 14, 1921, in a farmhouse just south of Ashton Iowa, to Leonard and Rose (Dries) Stallman. She graduated from Ashton High School in 1939.
Mildred married Herbert Poss on Sept. 11, 1943, in Yuma, Ariz. She sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry for 20 years, achieving many top honors in sales. Upon her retirement, she volunteered at the Bargain Center.
She was a member of Catholic Women's League, Altar Society, and was a charter member of Queen of Peace. Mildred enjoyed sewing and took pride in designing and making her daughter's wedding and bridesmaid's dresses. She was a devoted wife and mother, who loved family gatherings, card games and Scrabble.
Survivors include her husband, Herbert Poss; daughters, Carol (Bill) Chapman of Webb City, Mo., Judy (Joe) Miller of Lake City, Iowa, and Colette (Loren "Skip") Jahde of Sioux City; sons, Jeffrey (Roberta) Poss of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Jerry (Deb) Poss of Sioux City, and Kevin (Stormy) Poss of Sioux City; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and sister, Verna (Dean) Kruize.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Poss; brothers, Virgil and Irving Stallman; and sisters, Lavone and Berniece.
